Celebrating 21 years of Disabilty Action in Hounslow

In 1987 a group of disabled people came together in Hounslow and started the Hounslow Association of Disabled People. I wonder if they ever imagined we would be celebrating our 21st Birthday? Or did they know we would grow from strength to strength? Were you one of this original group? We’d love to hear from you and how the organisation first started.

Got the message?

The aim of this four-month research project was to identify disabling policies and practices which act as a barrier to communication between Disabled People in the borough of Hounslow and local statutory agencies.

The findings highlight many areas where there is room for improvements both in polices, practices and staff attitudes.

The recommendations cover written communication, leaflet and publication, face to face communication, telephone services, directional signage, reception and waiting rooms, consultation and policy.
